Rana Bhagwan Das remembered by SHC

All the benches of the Sindh High Court (SHC) have been discharged and work in subordinate courts has been suspended on the appeal of the Sindh High Court Bar (SHCB) due to demise of Justice (Retd) Rana Bhagwan Das of Supreme Court (SC).

Judges from subordinate courts, lawyers and their leadership, people from all segments of society and relatives of Bhagwan Das reached his residence in large number as soon as reports of his death were received.

Rana Bhagwan Das was born during December 1942 in district Naseer Abad and he started his career as a lawyer in 1965. He was appointed as a judge at the Sessions court in 1967 while he was elevated as a judge of SHC in 1994 and as judge of SC in 2000.

Rana Bhagwan Das had refused to take oath under PCO in 2007 and he was retired from service in 2007 on reaching the age of 65. He also took active part in the restoration of the independent judiciary movement. He also remained the Chairman of Federal Public Service Commission.
