Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Islamabad Police, Sultan Azam Taimori has urged people to use fire safely and responsibly. He said that scouting could play a pivotal role in developing self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, and citizenship skills.

He remarked this while addressing a ceremony held to mark the World Scouts Day at the KarlotResidentialCollege on Sunday.  On the occasion, fire safety expert Ali Reza, along with his team, under the banner of Pakistan Emergency Response Learning Programme (PERLP), demonstrated a fire fighting and rescue drill. Ali Raza told media persons that the control of fire by early humans was a turning point in the cultural aspect of human evolution and the first large organised force of fire fighters was established in ancient Rome in 6 AD.

He said that fire fighters must work closely with other emergency response agencies, most particularly local and state police departments.

A large number of scouts, civil society members, journalists and people from other walks of life were also present to mark the day.
