Sindh assembly members on Monday expressed concern over the use of faulty gas cylinders in public transport vehicles and asked to ban them to save precious lives.
MQM lawmaker Saifuddin Khalid on a point of order said 12 people were burnt alive and many others were injured due to a gas cylinder exploding in a Hyderabad-bound bus near Nooriabad on the Superhighway. He said the transporters are involved in a criminal act as they use cheap CNG gas, but charge higher bus fare based on diesel use. He said the government is not taking any action against this criminal act. He asked to ban the use of poor quality gas cylinders in public transport buses.
Many other members also spoke on the issue and showed concern on the frequency of gas cylinder explosion. They pointed out that old oxygen cylinders are used in public transport vehicles, and are a ticking time bomb.
Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani observed that the government should ban the use of CNG gas in public transport vehicles altogether.
