The Beaconhouse Group presented the Beaconhouse Emerging Talent Award for Art at the Lahore Literary Festival on Saturday.
Ghulam Muhammad was declared the winner and received a cash prize of Rs 200,000. Shakila Haider was the runner-up, receiving a cash prize of Rs 100,000. Both recipients hail from Balochistan. Ghulam Muhammad has a BFA from the Beaconhouse National University and Shakila Haider is a graduate of the National College of Arts.
The Beaconhouse Emerging Talent Award for Art has been initiated by the Beaconhouse Group to acknowledge the creative expression of young talent and to encourage aspiring artists to pursue their dreams. The artists’ work is displayed at the Alhamra Arts Council, Lahore.
Winners were selected by the panel of expert judges which included Naazish Ataullah, Risham Syed, Imran Qureshi and Salima Hashmi. The award was presented by Chairperson Beaconhouse Nasreen Kasuri after the launch of The Eye Still Seeks by Salima Hashmi and Martand Khosla. The book also focuses primarily on the new generation of Pakistani artists.
