At least 30 children attending a function at a private school in Mughalpura area on Saturday lost consciousness when the hall they were in got filled with gas and smoke leaking from a faulty electricity generator.
Around 100 students of Class 10 of Al-Hadi School System were attending the farewell party in the basement hall of the building located in Gulshan Park in Mughalpura when an electricity outage temporarily halted the event. The school administration turned on the backup electricity generator, which suddenly started leaking gas and smoke. The hall was soon filled with gas and smoke, causing 24 of the 100 schoolchildren to lose consciousness.
Rescue workers arrived at the scene and shifted the unconscious children to Services Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Other children were also safely evacuated from the basement.
Sources at the hospital said the condition of the children was out of danger.
Police have arrested the school’s owner, identified as Bilal.
