Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman has demanded two Senate seats from the Pakistan People’s Party for the Senate as a condition for forming an electoral alliance in Khyber Paktunkhwa, a news channel reported on Saturday.

According to the channel’s report, Fazl held a meeting with PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday and discussed the possibility of an electoral alliance in KP. The report said that Zardari had suggested that if the JUI-F, Qaumi Watan Party of Aftab Sherpao, Awami National Party and PPP form an alliance in KP it would enable them to get one person from each party elected to the Senate.

However, the channel’s sources said that Fazl had demanded two seats as a condition to enter any such alliance to which the PPP leader is yet to get back to him.

Meanwhile, talking to reporters in Lahore, PPP’s Senate-hopeful Rehman Malik said that his party has not yet reached any understanding with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) over the slot of chairman Senate.

Malik said the PPP would first prove its majority in the Senate after which it would negotiate with the PML-N over the position of chairman Senate.
