ISLAMABAD-
Dr Shahid Nawaz, head of cardiology unit of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital, who was shot outside the hospital on February 14, succumbed to his injuries on Friday.
Dr Nawaz was shot in the head by unidentified men as he was on his way to the hospital parking lot. He was operated upon and later shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Dr Nawaz remained associated with PIMS for eight years and was made the cardiology unit head two years ago.
The doctor’s attackers are still unidentified as the security cameras installed at the hospital were out-of-order.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed grief over Dr Nawaz’s demise in a condolence message to his family and directed the concerned authorities for swift action to thwart such incidents in the future. PM Sharif also directed that better security arrangements are ensured at hospitals, schools and other public places.
