ISLAMABAD-

Pakistan Foreign Office (FO) spokeswoman Tasneem Aslam on Friday said that the contradictory statements by India’s top officials on intercepting a Pakistani boat have exposed that the incident was a drama.

During a media briefing, Aslam said that Pakistan had made it clear that none of its boats went missing as India had claimed.

Earlier on Wednesday, a report on Indian Express had quoted India’s Deputy Inspector General of the Coast Guard B.K. Loshali as saying that he was the one to order to blow up the boat, a statement in sharp contrast to the Indian government that maintains that the boat with ‘suspected terror links’ blew itself up under mysterious circumstances.

Later, Loshali had issued a rejoinder rejecting the report and denied making such claim.

On a question about the visit of Indian Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar, the spokeswoman said that no dates were yet finalised for the visit.

She added that all issues between the two countries would be discussed with Jaishankar on his visit.

Speaking about the Samjhota Express incident in 2007 that left 68 people dead, mostly from Pakistan, Aslam said that India had not shared the investigation reports with Pakistan, adding that Pakistan has once again demanded of the Indian authorities to share the probe reports with the Pakistani authorities.

The FO spokesman refuted the human rights concern of European Union over the executions carried out since lifting a six-year moratorium on death penalty. She said that Pakistan was only executing convicted terrorists and the executions were not a violation of any international law.

In response to a query of resumption of peace talks between Afghan Government and Afghan Taliban, Aslam said that Pakistan is willing to act as a facilitator in the dialogue however, she added, the reconciliation process between the govt and the Taliban has to be owned by the Afghan authorities.

Aslam further said that the Afghan refugees were to return to Afghanistan by the end of 2015 under an agreement. A high-level delegation would soon visit Islamabad to discuss the matter with Pakistan, she added.

  1. India has always played deception in such cases. It is no wonder the claims were based on a false story. We must discuss all issues and disputes with the Indian secretary when he visits Pakistan..

Afghan refugees must be sent back. Millions of refugees are living in camps, and it is causing immense problems for us. They must be sent back as soon as possible.
