The Sindh High Court was informed Wednesday that medical students, who failed MBBS final year’s surgery theory paper, could take special exams.
The counsel for the examination controller, University of Karachi, submitted minutes of the meeting to a division bench which was hearing a petition filed by the students of different medical colleges who moved the court challenging their results in surgery theory paper.
The counsel submitted a report, stating that a meeting presided over by the examination controller in compliance of the court’s order suggested that a special examination of the affected students could be conducted within 10 to 15 days in order to save their time. He further said the students will also have another chance to appear in supplementary examination of the surgery.
The petitioner students belonged to LiaquatNationalMedicalCollege, JinnahMedicalDentalCollege, Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry, SirSyedCollege for Medicine and local government-run Karachi Medical and DentalCollege.
They submitted that the students had passed all their theoretical and oral examination except the surgery theory paper. They said the results of the impugned paper were announced with a delay of almost two months, on Oct 21. The counsel said that only 277 of the 483 students, who had appeared in the surgery theaory paper, were declared passed.
The petitioners stated that the question paper of surgery theory was out of syllabus and not in accordance with the ‘Table of Specification’ given by the university.
The petitioners asked the court to declare that surgery theory paper of 2014 was irregular, vague and out of context.
