CM condemns police lines terror attack

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Tuesday has strongly condemned the suicide blast outside Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines and sought a report from inspector general of police. He also expressed sorrow and grief over the loss of precious human lives and directed that best treatment facilities be provided to the injured persons.

The chief minister announced financial assistance of Rs 500,000 each for the families of deceased persons and Rs 75,000 for the seriously injured. A sum of Rs 25,000 will be given to the persons who received minor injuries.

He said that the government fully shares the grief of the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident while best treatment facilities are being ensured to the injured.

He said that such cowardly terrorist activities cannot weaken the resolve of the nation in the war against terrorism and the scourge of terrorism will be rooted out with the force of national unity. He said that time has come to give a strong reply to the terrorists who do not even deserve to be called human beings. He said that terrorism will be eliminated from the country on permanent basis.

Meanwhile, he presided over a high level meeting to review overall law and order situation and security arrangements in the province on Tuesday.

Addressing the meeting, he said that protection of life and property of the people is the responsibility of the state, therefore the police should discharge its responsibilities efficiently and take all necessary steps for ensuring law and order in the province.

He directed to pay special attention to the security of mosques, Imambarghs, worship places and important places besides keep a vigilant eye on miscreants. He said that in view of changing situation, the nature of responsibilities of police has also changed. A detailed briefing regarding law and order situation in the province was given.

Minister for Home Col (r) Shuja Khanzada, Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, provincial assembly member Rana Sanaullah, spokesman Zaeem Qadri, chief secretary, special assistant Rana Maqbool Ahmed, inspector general of police, secretaries concerned and senior officers were present on the occasion.
