Ministry hints at less load-shedding in summers

The ministry of water and power indicated reduced load-shedding in the upcoming summers saying up to 1,500 megawatt electricity will be added to the national system.

Officials in the ministry said they were working hard to add more electricity into the system and they were monitoring distribution companies on monthly basis to improve their performance. Load-shedding is expected to be reduced with completion of different hydral power plants including Nandipur Power Plant and Neelum-Jehlum projects.

Spokesperson of the ministry also informed that power plants would start working on LNG (Liquid Natural Gas). He also said the ministry had not decided to shut 650 MW electricity of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC).

According to him, the ministry will purchase electricity from rental power plants including Reshman, Guff and IPPs on take and pay bases. These power plants will not be issued capacity payments in case of non-production of electricity, he added.

The spokesperson said Rs 10 54 per unit is being offered for the electricity to be produced with LNG in Punjab. The NEPRA has accepted the request for advance tariff, he added, saying it would be implemented for next 30 years.
