QUETTA

The business community in Quetta  observed a strike on Friday against the government’s reported plan to change the route of Pakistan-China Economic Corridor.

In response to the strike call given by the Anjuman Tajran Balochistan, all trade and business centres on Jinnah Road, Shara-i-Iqbal, Liaquat Bazaar, Prince Road, Sirki Road, Mission Road, Circular Road, Zarghoon Road, Joint Road, Brewery Road, Alamo Chowk and Kuchlak Bazaar remained closed.

Several political groups backed the strike, criticising the government for considering changing the route of Gwadar-Kashgar economic corridor.  They also cautioned that excluding Khuzdar, Quetta, Zhob and Dera Ismail Khan from the original plan of the project would have serious repercussions for the unity of the nation.

According to a private media outlet, Anjuman Tajran Balochistan president Abdur Rahim Kakar  said that any change in the route of economic corridor was unacceptable.
