LAHORE-
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday praised national media for its efforts to protect democracy and the constitution while urging it to responsibly take part in steering the country out of the current crisis.
Addressing the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), he appreciated the contribution of Pakistani journalists in national development, adding that the media channels should let go the obsession with ratings and instead support the government.
He said the the journalists should formulate a code of conduct and function ‘ethically’. He said that every institution, including the media, must contribute to resolve the current challenges faced by Pakistan.
The premier also took the opportunity to express his disapproval for the anti-government protests in Islamabad in 2014.
He said that visits by foreign dignitaries were cancelled due to the instability caused by the protests and sit-ins whose objectives, he added, were beyond his understanding.
Speaking about Joint Investigation Team report on the Baldia Town factory fire incident, PM said that all legal requirement would be fulfilled in this regard. His vowed to clean Karachi of militancy and terrorism, applauding the efforts of the security personnel who have been carrying out targeted operation against miscreants in the country’s industrial hub.
