Khan’s side maintains silence over defamation case

Babar Awan, counsel for Imran Khan could not file reply in the court of sessions judge Muhammad Tanvir Mir in defamation case filed by former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry against PTI chairman.

Babar Awan said to the court that he could not file reply as the copies of documents related to defamation case have not been made available to him.

The learned judge remarked, “You can obtain copies of documents by applying for them as per legal method and you can only inspect the documents which are unauthenticated.”

Ahsan ud Din Sheikh, counsel for former CJP requested the court to decide the case within 90 days.

He filed 4 objections against Babar Awan advocate under code of conduct. They include taking notice against Babar Awan by former CJP Iftikhar Chaudhry in contempt of court, FIR registered by Chaudhry Aslam, former political secretary of Benazir Bhutto, declaring Rehman Malik culprit, petition filed by Khawaja Asif in apex court in Nandi Pur project and Haris Steel Mills scandal.

Babar Awan advocate and Ahsan ud Din Sheikh appeared in the court Saturday. Babar Awan who was to file reply on behalf of Imran Khan could not submit it.

The court ordered him to file reply on February, 21 and adjourned the hearing of the case.

Talking to media men later Ahsan ud Din Sheikh said Babar Awan has no evidence to give reply in this case. Iftikhar Chaudhry appeared in an ordinary court and proved that he believes in supremacy of law. Objections have been filed against Babar Awan as per law.

Babar Awan said several matter will open up when cross examination takes place.

  1. Once upon a time MRS Nusarat Bhutto had also filed a defation suit against a local news paper in the court of Senior Civil Judge, Islamabd. Will somebody like to tell me what happened in that suit. Mr. Kokab was the then senior civil Judge.Islamabad.
