The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s petition seeking the suspension of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

The PTI chairman had filed an application to the ECP demanding Sadiq’s suspension on grounds that a case of election rigging was underway in the election tribunal in Sadiq’s constituency NA-122.

The ECP rejected Khan’s application, stating that the commission has no authority to suspend the speaker before any judgment by the concerned tribunal was reached. The concerned tribunal is the only authority in the matter.
