Obama phones Sharif, updates him on India visit

US President Barack Obama on Thursday telephoned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and updated him on his recent visit to India, a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said.

According to the statement, Obama’s call lasted for about half an hour during which the American president told Prime Minister Sharif that Washington acknowledged Pakistan’s growing relations with Afghanistan and also appreciated the progress of Pakistan Army’s Operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan Agency.

The statement said that Prime Minister Sharif told Obama that Pakistan had taken exception to US’ support to India for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council, saying that India did not deserve the seat as it had been violating UN resolutions on Kashmir.

Sharif also told Obama about Pakistan’s desire of becoming a member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
