Workers’ remittances rise 14.6pc to $10.3b in 7 months

Overseas Pakistani workers remitted $10,358.81 million in first seven months (July to January) of FY15 showing an impressive growth of 14.6 percent compared with $9,038.4 million received during the same period of FY14.

During January 2015, the inflow of worker’s remittances amounted to $1,377.14 million which is 13 per cent lower than December 2014 and 10 per cent higher than January 2014.

The country wise details for the month of January 2015 shows that inflows from Saudi Arabia, UAE, USA, UK, GCC countries (including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman) and EU countries amounted to $452.81 million, $246.79 million, $186.15 million, $169.44 million, $160.44 million and $65.45 million respectively compared with the inflow of $393.27 million, $214.21 million, $193.09 million, $169.67 million, $151.09 million and $34.65 million respectively in January 2014.

Remittances received from Norway, Switzerland, Australia, Canada, Japan and other countries during January 2015 amounted to $96.06 million together as against $90 million received in January 2014.

  1. This is not due to any incentive or facility provided by the govt to expats who remits money to their families or family members in Pakistan. The increase in remittance is due to increase in the price of food & essential items, electricity & gas in the country. Increase has been exceptially high…thanks to the democratic system….It is nothing to be proud of….
