The Sindh High Court on Monday issued a notice to the Sindh chief secretary, secretary local government, and the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) administrator to explain why its order regarding the removal of illegal encroachment from an amenity plot in New Karachi was not complied with.
A division bench was hearing an application filed by a resident, Rauf Qadri, who moved the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the authorities concerned for flouting its earlier order.
The applicant submitted that an amenity plot measuring 10,000 square yards in Sector 5-E, New Karachi, was illegally converted to be used for purposes other than recreation. He said the court had directed the authorities concerned to take action against the illegal occupation of land but despite the passage of a considerable period, no action was taken.
Therefore, he requested the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Sindh chief secretary, secretary local government, and the KMC administrator, along with other officials, for flouting its order.
