KARACHI-
Following a three-hour long meeting, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have reached an accord over the establishment of a coalition government in Sindh, a statement on MQM’s official website said.
Senior PPP leader Rehman Malik met with MQM Chief Altaf Hussain in London to discuss formation of the coalition government and seat adjustments for the upcoming Senate elections.
The two parties have agreed on a 40-60 power sharing formula, with MQM getting four seat and PPP getting seven seats in the upper house.
Malik assured Hussain that MQM would be provided with its ‘due share’ in all departments under the 40-60 ratio.
MQM would soon be joining the treasury benches in the provincial assembly.
The two party leaders have also agreed on forming a committee, with two members from each side, to improve the working relationship between MQM and PPP. A ministerial committee would also be formed to resolve issues in the coalition government.
The statement adds that i twas also decided that the two parties would work together for development of Sindh and providing services to the people.
Malik would present a detailed report, of the meeting with the MQM chief, to the PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zaradari upon his return to Karachi. The agreement would be implemented after Zardari’s approval, the statement quoted Rehman as saying.
MQM had quit the Sindh colition government in October 2014 following statements made by the PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari against the MQM chief.
