  • IG Islamabad given two weeks for registration of murder case of two people killed in drone attacks

Islamabad High Court (IHC) has expressed resentment with Islamabad Police IG over non registration of murder case against CIA chief and legal counsel in respect of two people killed in drone attacks in the area of Mir Ali in South Waziristan in 2009.

The court sought detailed report in writing of murder case within two weeks from Islamabad IG.

A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui took up the case for hearing Monday.

Mirza Shahzad Akbar, counsel for the petitioner Karim Khan, federation standing counsel Husnain Ibrahim Kazmi, Islamabad IG Tahir Alam Khan, DSP Azhar Shah and other police officers appeared in the court.

Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui inquired from Islamabad IG as to why murder case of two people killed in drone attacks has not been registered so far despite court’s orders.

Islamabad IG told the court that drone attack matter was raised with the federal government through Islamabad commissioner following the issuance of orders by the court. The Islamabad commissioner wrote a letter to FATA secretariat for registration of murder case of two persons.

He further told the court legal complications are surfacing up in connection with registration of murder case of two persons killed in drone attacks. International relations are being kept in view because drone attack had taken place in the area of South Waziristan and murder case can be registered therein.

“Law is clear that a Pakistani citizen can register murder case anywhere. The petitioner says those responsible for killing of his family members are sitting in Islamabad. Have the rights of people of Pakistan been abolished and human being has lost its stature. Pakistan should act as per its laws,” Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui remarked.

The Islamabad IG requested the court to grant him time for 20 days for registration of case of the two persons.

The court allowed two weeks for registration of case, sought the details report of murder case from Islamabad IG and adjourned the hearing of the case for two weeks.
