Dozens of people were rescued and remained unhurt after the Commerce Centre building on I. I. Chundrigar Road suddenly caught fire on Monday.

A fire department official could not tell the exact number of the people that rescued; however, he said that dozens of people were successfully rescued by fire fighters through ladders and a snorkel. The fire had erupted on the fourth floor in the offices of the legal firms. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

He further said the fire was extinguished after a struggle of three hours with the help of 10 fire tenders, a snorkel and a rescue vehicle. The cooling process was carried out for a couple of hours so that the fire would not re-emerge.

“The fire only damaged computers, papers, and other stuff which was of little financial value,” he informed.
