Pakistan has formally announced that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit the country from 12th to 13th February.

The Foreign Office (FO) said Yi’s visit would bring an opportunity for both sides to have a free and frank exchange of views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.

“Pakistan and China would review and further consolidate all aspects of the bilateral relationship, with a special focus on political, strategic and economic cooperation,” the FO said in a statement.

“During the visit Foreign Minister Wang Yi would hold talks with Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz. The Chinese FM will also call on the president and the prime minister,” FO said.

“Pakistan attaches great importance to its comprehensive strategic partnership with China.

“Such high-level visits are a regular feature of the time-tested and unshakeable bonds of friendship between the governments and peoples of Pakistan and China,” the FO spokesperson said.

Both Beijing and Islamabad are to finalise the dates of the Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Pakistan, which is expected to take place next month.

There were reports that the Chinese president is expected to attend the Pakistan Day parade as chief guest.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s two-day official visit to Pakistan was scheduled for February 9, but had been postponed for unknown reasons.
