Sharjeel Memon says criticism of JIT report on factory fire ‘inappropriate’

KARACHI-

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Monday termed the criticism of the Joint Investigation Team’s (JIT) report on the Baldia Town factory fire ‘inappropriate’.

Speaking to media outside the Sindh Assembly building, the information minister said that representatives from the Rangers, police and intelligence agencies had jointly worked to carry out the investigations, adding that terming the report wrong was inappropriate.

His statement follows a day after Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain had criticised the report which had blamed his party for the deadly inferno that took more than 250 lives in 2012 on basis of a confession by a suspect.

The MQM chief termed the JIT report a ‘joint interrogation tabloid team’ saying it was akin to the pattern adopted by tabloids printing ‘spicy news’.

He said that some media outlets had rejoiced over the JIT report, trying to defame MQM.

He demanded to call in foreign detectives to investigate the incident, adding that if any of his party men were found involved, they would be hanged.

Addressing the country’s military leadership, Hussain further said that such reports had led to the loss of half of Pakistan and the other half would be lost too if reforms were not made.
