The steps being taken for the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) are yielding positive results and all departments are discharging their responsibilities with the best coordination, said

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday while presiding over a meeting of Provincial Apex Committee which reviewed in detail measures taken in the province with regards to implementation of NAP against terrorism.

Corps Commander Lahore Lieutenant General Naveed Zaman, Home Minister Colonel (r) Shuja Khanzada, Punjab Rangers Director General Major General Khan Tahir Javed Khan, 10th Division General Officer Commanding Major General Aamir Abbasi, chief secretary, inspector general of police (IGP), secretary home and other members of the committee were present during the meeting.

The chief minister said that the Punjab government had taken immediate and timely measures with the cooperation of institutions concerned under NAP for the eradication of terrorism, and necessary amendments had been made in the laws for making sentences more stringent.

He said that due to effective measures taken by the army, police and other law-enforcement agencies, successes were being achieved in the war against terrorism.

Shahbaz said Pakistani nation had a stern resolve to eradicate terrorism, extremism and sectarianism on permanent basis, adding that terrorists and extremists would be defeated with the force of national unity and the country would be rid of terrorism and extremism.

He said the whole nation was grieved at the worst barbarity committed by terrorists against innocent children of Army Public School in Peshawar, adding that the time had come to purge the country of terrorists.

The chief minister further stated that Pakistan would be rid of terrorism and transformed into a haven of peace through an exemplary display of unity and harmony.

He said decisive action was being taken against the brutal elements and the entire nation was standing by its armed forces and law-enforcement agencies in this war.
