World Bank approves five power projects for Pakistan

Minister of Finance Senator Ishaq Dar on Saturday said that the World Bank had accorded its approval for the construction of five power projects in Pakistan.

According to a statement, the projects approved include the Gul Ahmad wind power project, the Tenaga Generasi wind power project, Gulpur hydro power project, the acceleration of Tarbela IV extension project and the Sindh Public Sector Reform project. The energy projects are expected to add over 10,000 MW to national energy basket when operational.

According to the statement, this is the largest portfolio ever approved by the World Bank board of directors in one month.

Dar assured that these projects would be accorded priority and will be completed within the stipulated timeframe. The finance minister added that the approval of the loan by the World Bank was reflection of the trust of the world body on the policies of the government.
