PM, army chief review progress on NAP

Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday during which the two leaders discussed matters relating to the implementation of the National Action Plan for combating terrorism and extremism.

The army chief also took the prime minister into confidence over his recent visit to Beijing where he held meetings with the top Chinese political and military leadership. The COAS also apprised the premier about successes in Operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan and surrounding areas. The army chief told the premier that a number of militants have been eliminated in the operation.

The premier expressed satisfaction over the progress made in military operations targeting militants in the country.

Speaking to the army chief, the premier appreciated the resolve of the armed forces in the fight against terrorism and said that the government and the nation fully supported the armed forces.

The premier was also informed about the armed forces’ decision to organise a joint services parade on Pakistan Day.
