While presiding over a two-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC) on Friday during the course of hearing of petition filed by Shamim, alleged wife of Azam Hoti, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja remarked, “There are absconders in this country who are seen daily on TV. Police should provide protection to the people. Redressing the grievances of people is the job of police as per law. If police’s direction is set right, everything will be set right.”
During the hearing, Secretariat Police Station SHO appeared in the court. The court inquired about the action taken against the person who allegedly threatened Shamim.
The SHO told the court that a case has been registered against the person who has hurled threats. The accused is absconding and efforts are underway to locate him.
The court ordered the police to investigate the matter and present an enquiry report thereof before it.
The hearing of the case was adjourned indefinitely.
