Gang selling newborn babies busted by police

Islamabad Police on Thursday arrested two persons from a gang that has been involved in selling newborn babies.

According to the details, resident of Lahore, Asif Qureshi, son of Muhammad Akram, came to know about a Facebook page called “Adopt Baby Islamabad” which is involved in the business of selling children.

Through his sources, he contacted a person called Shahzad Ali Zeb, son of Gul Zeb Khan, resident of G-10 Islamabad, who agreed to sell a newborn eight-day-old baby girl and demanded Rs. 300,000.

When he heard the demand, he was not sure about the person he was dealing with anymore. On the tip off, the Ramna police station raided the house and arrested two people from the gang.

A special investigation team constituted on the directions of IG Islamabad Tahri Alam, and headed by SSP Islamabad Muhammad Ilyas, made the raid.

During the investigation, the arrested persons said that they had formed an NGO under which newborn babies were supplied to couples for a price. The babies were brought in by women who had stolen them from hospitals.

Acting on the information, the police arrested another three women from Peshawar and Mardan. Additional investigation is currently underway.
