ISLAMABAD-
The schedule for local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Punjab and Sindh was announced Friday by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
An ECP meeting, chaired by by Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Sardar Raza, decided to hold local government polls in KP in May 2015, in Punjab in November 2015 and in March 2016 in the province of Sindh.
The local body polls in Balochistan were concluded last year with the first phase starting in Dec 2013 and two other phases following in May and December 2014.
ECP had blamed the political governments in KP, Punjab and Sindh for their lack of political will causing the delay in the elections and had earlier stated that it would begin the process of delimitation of wards for holding the local body election once complete data is received from Punjab and Sindh.
Imran Khan, chief of the KP-ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had blamed the electoral body and Sindh and Punjab government for the delay.
