Two dacoits, 2 cops killed in encounter

Two dacoits and two policemen were killed in an exchange of firing in Bhains Colony Thursday.

Two armed men riding a motorbike opened fire when police officers tried to stop them during snap checking at the check post. Police retaliated and both the dacoits were killed, however, the two police officers also lost their lives.

Senior Superintendent of Police Malir (SSP) Rao Anwar stated that the armed bikers were trying to flee after shooting the police officers. The officers, identified as Saeed and Aijaz, were taken to the hospital where they succumbed to injuries. Meanwhile, police claimed to have arrested five suspects allegedly involved in an attack on a school during raids conducted in different parts of the city. The operation was launched in the aftermath of a cracker attack on a school located in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of the city.

The raids were carried out in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Abul Hassan Isphahani Road, Gabol Town and Sohrab Goth on the basis of information gathered through CCTV footage. Sources said all the five suspects were associated with a banded outfit.

Moreover, the provincial authorities have started taking down flags and banners of banned organisations from the city.
