Bumper wheat crop: Government decides to export surplus produce

The Punjab government has decided to export surplus reserves of wheat and the federal government has allowed export of wheat on a rebate of 50 dollar per metric tonne.

This was told to Punjab Minister for Food Bilal Yasin who was presiding over a meeting regarding wheat export at Secretary Food Office on Thursday which was attended by wheat exporters, flour mill owners, secretary food and director food.

A detailed briefing was given to the minister and exporters on the occasion. The meeting was informed that the persons desirous of exporting wheat can deposit Rs 1260 per 40 kg in the form of bank draft and 55 dollars per metric tonne rebate as bank warranty within 120 days. The director food told the meeting that exporters will be bound to export wheat within 30 days of lifting wheat and their bank warranty will be returned after verification by the Food Department. The exporters can export minimum of one thousand metric tonne wheat while the limit for opening LC with government assistance is 2500 metric tonne.

Bilal Yasin informed flour mills owners that the government is also considering to export wheat products for earning foreign exchange and providing maximum job opportunities to the people. He said that there are vast opportunities of wheat export in international market and the exporters will benefit substantially.
