Adiala Jail officials on Tuesday put off the execution of a murder convict after receiving official orders.
According to jail sources, Shoaib Sarwar was to be hanged on Friday for killing the son of a police inspector. The prisoner was moved from Haripur jail to Adiala for execution. However, after receiving government orders the execution has been deferred for three weeks.
According to jail sources, the execution has been deferred over the possibility of pardon by the legal heirs of the deceased.
Reports suggest that Sarwar had been acting in self-defence when the murder was committed. Due to bad advice from his counsel, he was unable to call key witnesses who could corroborate his version of events.
