Varsity treasurers conference adopt measures for funds management

The first-ever conference of universities’ treasurers held Monday adopted a comprehensive package of recommendations for better management of funds and the staff capacity-building, in light of new directions by the Higher Education Commission.

The conference, organised by Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and presided over by AIOU’s Saleman Saleem, decided that the package will be sent to HEC for further action. It was attended by the representatives of Islamabad-based universities including NUML, IIU, QAU, COMSAT and ARID (Rawalpindi).

The conference discussed matters of mutual interests, including catering the fund managements, gap of inflows and out flows due to introduction of new compensations schemes by government for government employees and introduction of new SROs /revision of rates etc.

The participants thanked AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof Shahid Siddiqui for his support in making the conference successful. It was decided that the conference will take place on regular basis to take stock of the new developments in the financial matters. Treasurers of other universities will also be invited in next meeting.

A delegation of treasurers will soon meet the HEC chairman to discuss the common issues. The conference was addressed by NUML Treasurer Tufail Khalil, IIU Finance Director Khurshid Alam, QAU Treasurer Zia Akhtar, COMSATS Additional Treasurer Muhammad Azam, Arid and Agriculture University Rawalpindi Treasurer Syeda Irum Umer.

In his concluding remarks, Suelman Saleem expressed his profound gratitude to the participants for sharing their views and practices of their universities.
