Petrified terrorists attempt another shot at kids

Unidentified motorcyclists Tuesday executed a grenade blast on a road that houses a number of private schools in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Block 7, causing panic in area residents though no loss of life or property was reported in the incident.

Karachi DIG-East Munir Sheikh said that no school was directly targeted in the attack and no casualties were reported as the schools were closed at the time of the blast.

According to sources, the attackers also left a threat letter before fleeing the scene.

Security and emergency teams reached the site and cordoned off the area. One track of the University Road was blocked after the incident which caused a traffic snarl up in the area.

Rangers Director General Maj Gen Bilal Akbar also visited the blast site while provincial education minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro took notice of the blast and sought a report over the incident from Karachi Police additional inspector general (AIG).

An administrative source associated with a private school situated near the blast site said that academic activities of all schools in the vicinity had been suspended for the day. He said the purpose of the attack was to stoke fear and panic among the schoolchildren’s parents.

He added that further course of action would be taken by the administration of the 27 schools in the locality after consulting with security agencies.

In the meanwhile, the administration of Government Girls Secondary School located in the area of Sachal, Karachi Tuesday received a threatening letter from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The letter threatened blowing up the school and warned that the administration would be responsible for the consequences in case of informing police or the government. Written in Sindhi language, the letter demanded that the school be closed immediately.

The school management took instant action and announced the holiday.
