The Lahore High Court (LHC) Monday stayed Joint Stock Companies (JSC) registrar from cancelling the registration of Minhaj-ul-Quran.
Justice Ijazul Ahsan passed the orders on a petition filed by Minhaj-ul-Quran challenging a notice by the JSC registrar for cancellation its registration. The court suspending the notice, sought a reply from the registrar and the Punjab government by February 20
During the proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel Barrister Ali Zafar arguing before the court submitted that the registrar had issued a notice to Minhaj-ul-Quran for cancellation of its registration on purchasing bullet proof cars and other material.
He said that respondents did not have any authority to de-register the Minhaj-ul-Quran under Society Registration Act.
He said that a society could only be closed if two third of its members decide it. He contended that the notice was illegal. He pleaded the court to set aside the notice.
The court after hearing initial arguments stayed the respondents from cancelling the registration of Minhaj-ul-Quran and suspended the notice as well. The court also sought reply from the respondents by February 20.
