Fawad Khan picks up his first ever Filmfare award

Pakistan’s darling Fawad Khan has won the Best Debut Male Filmfare Award for the movie Khoobsurat.

Fawad made his Bollywood debut opposite Sonam Kapoor as a a Rajput prince  in Disney India’s  modern romantic comedy film Khoobsurat.

Last year, the Disney prince won Masala Awards’s ‘Best Bollywood Debut’.

He was presented the award by Jhataleka Malhotra and Fawad’s co-star in the film, Sonam Kapoor. Sonam herself has been nominated for the best actor-female in a leading role award. Fawad thanked Anil Kapoor, Khoobsurat’s producer Rhea Kapoor, Disney Productions along with the entire cast and crew of Khoobsurat.
“You guys are the instrument of my success. It is beautiful to get love from people in India and Pakistan.”

He beat off competition from the likes of Tahir Raj Bhasin (Mardaani), Tiger Shroff (Heropanti), Sharib Hashmi (Filmistaan) and Freddy Daruwala (Holiday) to win the award.

Fawad becomes the first Pakistani to win the Filmfare awards in the actor category.
Prior to receiving the award, Fawad, who looked dapper in a grey Dior suit with a pin-striped waistcoat, said on the red carpet that he was excited to be attending his first Filmfare event. He said that he was having a bit of a “fan-struck moment” for being among the creme of Bollywood’s stars at probably the most prestigious film event in the region.

Shahid Kapoor won the Filmfare award for Best Actor (Male) for his performance in the film “Haider”, while Kangna Ranaut received the Best Actor (Female) award for “Queen”, at the 60th Britannia Filmfare Awards ceremony on Saturday.

Rajat Kapoor’s critically acclaimed film “Ankhon Dekhi” won the Best Film (Critics) award. The prize for the Best Male Actor (Critics) went to Sanjay Mishra for “Ankhon Dekhi” and the Best Female Actor (Critics) award was given to Alia Bhatt for her performance in “Highway”.

The star-studded award function was attended by the who’s who of Bollywood, including Tabu, Kajol, Salman Khan, Rekha, Madhuri Dixit, Ileana D’Cruz, Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, Vikas Bahl, Shraddha Kapoor, Subhash Ghai, Vidya Balan, Abbas Mastan, Nargis Fakhiri, R Madhawan, Sonali Bendre, Shahid Kapoor, and Manisha Koirala among others.

The Filmfare Awards, first introduced in 1954, are presented annually by The Times Group to honour the artistic and technical excellence of professionals in Bollywood.
