Uproar in Senate against Nisar’s absence

The Senate witnessed an uproar when opposition members voiced their protest against the absence of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in the House, and declared him an “offender and absconder”.

PPP Parliamentary leader Raza Rabbani said on a point of order that a debate has to take place over the National Action Plan (NAP) but the interior minister is not present.

“The government of Punjab is saying no foreign funds are being provided to seminaries. House has not been taken into confidence with reference to madrassas or NAP,” he said.

Haji Adeel said, “We will not allow the House to run.” The House started echoing with ‘No, no, go, go’ slogans.

The opposition staged a walk out from the Senate after the completion of arguments by Leader of the House Raja Zafar ul Haq, Khawaja Saad Rafiq and Sheikh Aftab Ahmad. Meanwhile, Haq said the opposition should not stage a protest.

ANP Senator Zahid Khan pointed out the lack of quorum, following which Deputy Chairman Sabir Baloch adjourned the session for 20 minutes.
