The resignation of Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar amplified his helplessness as he could not deliver to improve the quality of life of the poor masses for which he was committed from the outset, said Pakistan Peoples’ Party Punjab President Manzoor Wattoo in a statement issued on Thursday.
Wattoo said that he himself tendered resignation from the post because he wielded no power and was helpless in the face of exclusive governance style of the Punjab chief minister.
He recalled that Sarwar had been urging upon the government to hold local bodies elections, provide education to 23 million children and arrange supply of clean drinking water but his attempts to persuade the top leadership fell on deaf ears as there was no change of heart and the apathy continued to sway the thinking of the mandarins.
He observed that Sarwar rightly pointed out the failure of diplomacy of Pakistan because the US president visited India twice but didn’t visit Pakistan even once despite the fact that the country had been facing the major brunt of terrorism as a frontline state. He was right that the government failed to sensitise the US administration the amount of sacrifices and sufferings of the Pakistani nation had to undergo during the war on terror, he added.
