KARACHI-
Major cities and towns of Sindh remained shut down on Thursday after a ‘peaceful shutter-down strike’ call by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to protest what it calls the ‘extra-judicial’ killings of 36 of its party workers, private media reported.
Business centres, public transport, petrol stations and educational institutes remained shut in Karachi. Exams scheduled by the Karachi University were postponed for the day.
A strike was also observed in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpur Khan and Tando Allahyar.
Codemning the killings, MQM Chief Altaf Hussain held the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah responsible for the killings and said that his workers were being killed in the name of operation by security forces.
