Jud, JI join hands to protest against blasphemous caricatures

Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) have agreed to jointly launch nationwide movement against the publication of blasphemous caricatures in a weekly magazine in France.

It was decided during a meeting of JI Amir Sirajul Haq with JuD Amir Hafiz Muhammad Saeed at Jamia Al-Qadisa on Thursday. JI central leader Liaqat Baloch, JuD leader Hafiz Abdur Rahman Makki, Tehreek-e-Hurmat-e Rasool Maulana Amir Hamza and Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar were also present on the occasion.

It was also agreed that both the parties will convene a meeting of all political and religious parties to devise a strategy to put pressure on the government to make efforts for an international law against blasphemy.

Saeed and Haq also agreed to hold protest rallies and conferences on February 5 to express solidarity with Kashmiris brethren.

Speaking on the occasion, Haq said it was a dire that the protests against blasphemy should be converted into a nationwide and international movement.

“The leaders of 40 European countries had hurt the feelings of 1.5 billion Muslims all over the world by showing solidarity with the blasphemers, and now there is dire need that all Muslims should join hands for safeguarding the sanctity of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Muslims would sacrifice their lives but cannot tolerate blasphemy,” he said.

The leaders also discussed in detail various aspects of the recent visit of US President Barack Obama to India. They said that they would continue to support the cause of Kashmiris and hold conferences and protests on the Kashmir Solidarity Day. They also called upon the government to raise the issue of blasphemous caricatures at OIC, United Nations (UN) and other international forums.
