LONDON-
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain said Thursday that he is severing ties with the party and will deliver his address as the party chief on Friday (tomorrow) for the last time.
Talking to a private news channel, the MQM chief said that he has failed to transform Pakistan.
“I could have saved it but now I can only pray,” he said, asking for forgiveness from the nation.
He said that establishment did not like him and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) attempted to implicate him in cases even when no corruption was proved against him. He also accused the spy agency of supporting the lawyers’ movement against former president Pervez Musharraf.
Altaf appreciated the services of Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, saying he had tried his level best to restore law and order in Karachi but, he said, ” he (Ishrat) couldn’t fight with army, rangers and the police.”
The MQM chief’s statement comes as the party observed a strike in Karachi and parts of Sindh against the ‘extrajudicial killings’ of 36 of its party worker.
Earlier, Altaf had held the Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah responsible for the killings, adding that the murders were carried out in the name of security operations.
