A person was arrested for refusing to vaccinate his child during an ongoing anti-polio campaign in the metropolis.
An anti-polio drive continued on second day in 11 sensitive union councils of the mega city. In the union council of Firdous Colony Number 2, a person refused to administer polio drops to his kid. Deputy Commission Saifur Rehman, who was present at the scene tried to convince him, but he did not pay any heed to him.
Later, the father was arrested for not cooperating with the authorities. The provincial health department has set target of inoculating 2,16,807 children below age of five whereas 883 polio workers and supervisors are taking part in the ongoing campaign in Chakra Goth, Rerhi, Muzaffarabad Colony, Muslimabad, Fidous Colony No 2, Gujjar Zone A UC, Zone B UC, Zone C UC, Zone D UC, Zone E UC, Manghopir, Chishti Nagar Orangi, Islamia Colony UC and Ittehad Colony UC. Meanwhile, 1,375 policemen and 173 Rangers personnel are escorting the health workers. Meanwhile, a polio campaign has started in 11 sensitive union councils of the metropolitan city.
To this effect, Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddique headed the meeting where he was briefed on security arrangements of four-day polio campaign that begins in 11 sensitive union councils of Karachi.
The meeting was attended by EDO Health Dr Imdad and heads of town health where they told about the detail of the campaign.
During the four days of the campaign, 1,78, 421 children will be given polio drop. The commissioner was told that the first-day progress report was satisfactory. It was decided in the meeting that security arrangements for the polio teams would be ensured and wherever the police deployment is less the chief minister would be informed immediately.
The commissioner directed the deputy commissioners to take all possible steps for ensuring success of the campaign so that their future generations were saved from the crippling disease.
