Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo on Wednesday claimed to have arrested Mohammad Mansoor, the suspected killer of Dr Shakeel Auj, Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies, University of Karachi.
Addressing a press conference at Central Police Office (CPO) Karachi, he said the accused had also confessed to killing renowned scholar Prof Sibt-e-Hussain and opening fire on Rangers’ mobile.
He said the police worked hard to trace and arrest the alleged killer of Dr Auj, as it was a high-profile case, and police were constantly being criticised for its failure to arrest the killer. Police said: “The accused, Mansoor, is a resident of Liaquatabad and a ward boy at the SindhgovernmentHospital Liaquatabad, besides being a motor mechanic.”
He further claimed that Mansoor’s four accomplices – Faheem Jabal Pori, Ihtesham and two others – were also involved in the killing of Dr Auj. Thebo said the accused claimed to be the worker of a political party, however, no one had so far owned him. The AIGP said the arrested accused had also confessed to killing three workers of a political party in 1993.
