Primary School Teachers (PST) Karachi division held a protest demonstration on Monday outside the Karachi Press Club against the non-payment of their salaries for the last 10 months.
Speaking on the occasion, Primary School Teachers (PST) Karachi division President Noorul Amin said that 334 teachers had passed the test conducted by the University of Sindh, and they were appointed as PST on contract basis in 2011. However, they had not been paid their salaries despite performing their jobs regularly.
He said that after holding a protest outside the Governor House in February 2014, Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad had issued orders for the regularisation of all the appointed teachers in Sindh. Later in March 2012, the Sindh Assembly also passed a bill for the regularisation of teachers.
He said that after the contracted ended in March 2014 they still had not been paid whereas teachers in other districts were being paid their salaries.
He appealed to Governor Sindh, Chief Minister, Sindh High Court and Education Minister to resolve their problem immediately and save them from economic downturn.
