The Islamabad High Court (IHC) will be hearing the case of Mumtaz Qadri, the main accused in the Salman Taseer murder case.
A division bench of the IHC comprising of Justice Noor ul Haq N Qureshi and Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui will hear the appeal plea filed by Mumtaz Qadri against his conviction.
A panel of counsels including Mian Nazir Ahmad, Malik Muhammad Rafiq and former chief justice Lahore High Court Khawaja Muhammad Sharif will represent the petitioner Mumtaz Qadri while Deputy Attorney General (DAG) will appear on behalf of the federation.
It may be recalled that the then Chief Justice (CJ) of IHC Iqbal Hamid ur Rehman and Justice Muhammad Anwar Khan Kansi had accepted the appeal plea filed by Mumtaz Qadri and suspended the orders of Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) which had handed down the death penalty to Qadri besides issuing notices to other parties concerned.
The hearing of the Mumtaz Qadir case has been fixed after about three years.
This appeal will be a game changer. The killer does not deny the act and the purpose behind it. Will the law of jungle pervail?
A week defence by the Federation will lead to release of the accused.
