Police kill prime suspect in murder, abuse of boy during ‘escape bid’

LAHORE-

The 17-year-old prime suspect, in the murder of a seven-year-old boy found hanged at a mosque in Green Town, was killed during a foiled escape attempt while being taken to an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains had claimed during a press conference a DNA report had confirmed the teenager, Shoaib, as a convict who later also ‘confessed’ to killing the minor after a sexual assault in a mosque on January 2.

On Monday (today), the suspect was being shifted to ATC when he attempted to escape after snatching a rifle from one of the police guards escorting him in a vehicle as it approached Muslim Town underpass.

He was killed in an ensuing chase.

Intially, the prayer caller of the mosque, where the incident took place, had confessed to the crime to local police. He was later declared innocent following an investigation by CIA police and was released on court orders.
