Power supply was restored in Karachi early morning following a seven-hour breakdown that took place Saturday mid-night, said a Karachi Electricity (KE) spokesman on Sunday.

It was claimed that electric supply to Karachi was disrupted around 12 midnight due to tripping of national grid, however, the KE managed to fully restore the supply to the metropolis as well as to certain parts of interior Sindh and Balochistan dependent on the facility.

Power supply was resumed on priority basis to pumping stations in Dhabeji and Pipri as these were critical for water supply to Karachiites, said the spokesman. Similarly, power to other critical facilities which were previously put on generators has also been restored including all major hospitals, Jinnah International Airport and so-forth.

According to the KE spokesman, tripping of the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) line, Saturday midnight, had a cascading effect on KE system as its supply was de-synced affecting 600 to 650 mega watts provided to the metropolis.
