150 Afghan families repatriated to Afghanistan from Sialkot region, six POs from different countries nabbed from Sialkot
The police claimed to have arrested 5,550 suspects including 1,900 illegal Afghan nationals during search operations in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province over the past one week.
The report which has been sent to the central police office stated that during the operation, around 5,550 suspects were taken into custody while about 1,800 weapons of different kinds and 5,700 cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
The progress report maintains that 19, 700 houses and 40, 000 hotels were searched for the presence of suspects while security of 23,557 educational institutions was scrutinised.
The report was sent to relevant regional police officers (RPO) and district police officers (DPOs).
It is pertinent to note here that the search and strike operation has been intensified all over KP, especially in Peshawar, after the Army Public School (APS) attack on December 16, 2014 which resulted in the death of 149 people, mostly children.
BACK TO AFGHANISTAN:
In the meanwhile, 150 families of Afghan nationals residing illegally in Sialkot region have been repatriated to Afghanistan.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Syed Dilawar Abbas disclosed this while talking to media on Friday. Sialkot DPO Dr Shehzad Asif was also present.
The RPO said that these Afghan families had been living illegally in Sialkot since long and they could not produce any valid legal document during special checking by the police.
The RPO added that police also arrested six notorious fugitive proclaimed offenders (POs) in Sialkot district with the help of the Interpol during 2014. The POs belonged to different countries, he added. He said police was also making contacts with Interpol for ensuring arrest of 11 other notorious POs from abroad with the help of Interpol.
Moreover, the Sialkot DPO added that a special cell has also been established at the office of Sialkot DPO for issuance of character certificates to the people by police.
TWO AFGHAN MINORS PERISH:
In the meanwhile, Torkham-based political administration has said that two minors including one-year-old Zarmina and five-month-old Farmina died of severe cold in Shagai area of Jamrud when their family was en route to Torkham.
An administration official said the Afghan family was travelling from Azad Kashmir to Torkham border crossing in a tractor trolley when they reached Torkham station at night with the two deceased minors.
The official said that the victim family was provided with food and night stay and was repatriated early in the morning to Afghanistan via Torkham border crossing.
Furthermore, custom clearing agents have closed import and export services at Torkham custom station. The custom clearing agents under the leadership of their Union President Abdullah also protested against the Torkham-based political administration, alleging that the administration had not solved their long-standing problems.
