After increasing complaints by patients about the non-availability of free medicines in all government run hospitals in Rawalpindi, the Punjab government is taking notice of the situation and has decided to take action against the concerned authorities if it is proven that they were involved in any wrongdoing. The CM has asked for a report on the matter.

Annual funds are provided to all hospitals of the province, including the ones in Rawalpindi. These funds are meant to be used to give free medicines to patients in emergency departments. However, patients have been constantly complaining about the non-availability of free medicines in allied hospitals, including Benazir Bhutto, Holy Family and District headquarters hospital.

The CM has directed the administrations of the hospitals to send detailed lists of medicinal stocks that are with the provincial health authority.

He also sought separate lists of medicines that are being used in the emergency section of the hospitals, after which concerned authority will take steps for the further provision of medicines.  In case any irregularities are found, strict action will be taken against hospital administration.

It is also learnt that health officials would pay surprise visits to all government hospitals to monitor the services given to the patients.
