Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Friday has decided to contest the by-elections to be held on National Assembly seat NA-137-Nankana which fell vacant of the passing away of Roy Munseb Ali.

The decision was taken in a meeting held under the chair of PPP Punjab President Manzoor Wattoo and was attended by PPP Punjab Secretary General Tanvir Ashraf Kaira, divisional co-coordinator Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed, District President Nankana Sahib Roy Shah Jehan Bhatti, distinct president Asef Khan and others.

In the meeting, it was also decided that all the endeavours of the government would be frustrated that it tend to unleash delay in the holding of such elections based on its fear of losing the seat, or use excessive administrative authority to secure the desired results.

Wattoo said that the government had proved its inaptness beyond recognition, and the people were fed up due to the back-to-back crisis. As if the load shedding of electricity and gas was not enough and now the “evaporation” of petrol from the filling stations had dashed all hopes of the people of any improvement from the current rulers, he added.

Tanvir Ashraf Kaira expressed his serious doubts about the ability of the government to fight out terrorism in the country despite across the board massive political support and of the people alike. They lack vision and clarity and winning the war against terrorism is an uphill task if not impossible, he added.

He called upon the government to stop exploiting the political leadership of the country by playing on their fear of the scourge of terrorism, adding that it should instead implement the National Action Plan with speed and precision.

Chaudhry Manzoor criticised the macroeconomic policies of the government, adding that their privatisation policy would be resisted tooth and nail because its juggernaut was stinking with their intention to befit the crony capitalists. The heaviest domestic borrowings by the government have already landed the banking sector into an acute liquidity crunch with negative fallout on the economy, he added.
